It’s still the ‘Eras’ of Taylor Swift

Another weekend, another win for Taylor Swift. After taking off the boring part of the week, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour returned to theaters to add another $31 million to its domestic haul.
After The Eras Tour crushed every record for a concert movie last week, Swift’s film put more distance between itself and its historical competition this weekend. Justin Bieber: Never Say Never? $73 million. Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour? $65.3 million.
2. Killers of the Flower Moon

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was never in danger of being dethroned by Killers of the Flower Moon, but Martin Scorsese’s latest made it closer than most people expected.
In addition to receiving glowing reviews from critics and audiences, Killers of the Flower Moon notched one of the best opening weekends of Scorsese’s careers. Only Shutter Island ($41.1 million) and The Departed ($26.9 million) had better debuts than Killers of the Flower Moon.
3. The Exorcist: Believer

We’re a week out from Halloween weekend, and The Exorcist: Believer is taking advantage of being the only new seasonally themed movie currently in theaters. (Unless you consider seeing PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie to be a nightmare …)
4. PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie

Total domestic gross: $56.1M

Our daughter isn’t old enough to go to the movies, but I imagine the lack of films that are age appropriate for kids is the reason that movies like PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie stick around for four straight weekends.
5. The Nightmare Before Christmas

Total domestic gross: $4.1M

Here’s a confusing one: The Nightmare Before Christmas isn’t a new movie. Obviously. But the film is being reported as if it’s new, with its total domestic gross being reported at $4.1 million — the same amount it brought in during its re-release this weekend. According to The Numbers, The Nightmare Before Christmas grossed $77.4 million during its original release, so let’s say that Henry Selick’s class film has crossed the $80 million mark.
