Marvel wants you to believe that Taylor Swift *definitely* isn’t in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

We should totally trust the MCU this time, right? PLUS: ‘The Wild Robot’ trailer stuns, ‘Late Night’ drops its band, and my Internet died for a whole day.

Hey, it’s Friday. Welcome to another edition of Popculturology.

You know what really throws a wrench in producing a newsletter like this? Having you Internet go out on Wednesday night and not getting fixed until later on Thursday. I was at the grocery store after work on Wednesday when I began getting alert after alert. Our security system was out. A camera was missing. The doorbell was no longer talking to the system.

I attempted to use my phone as a hotspot connected to our Apple TV so we could still watch TV, but — wow — did that setup struggle. (My attempts to hotspot my phone to my computer to work on Thursday were just as unsuccessful.) You really forget just how much of your life is now tied into whether or not your home Internet is working.

Thankfully I’ve been updating our Blu-ray collection over the past few years, so I was able to watch Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. It was a bit harder to explain to our two-and-a-half-year-old daughter why she couldn’t watch Daniel Tiger the next morning, though. Long gone are the days where your Internet and your TV fed into your home in separate ways.

Anyways, I do my best to chip away at Popculturology during the week, so this edition is still filled with news. I might have missed some stuff that broke on Thursday, but there’s always next week’s edition.

Taylor Swift definitely isn’t in Deadpool & Wolverine *wink wink*

The rumor that Taylor Swift has some kind of role in Deadpool & Wolverine has been making the rounds for months (a year?) now. Fueled by clues like director Shawn Levy hanging out with Swift, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, the idea that Swift would soon be joining the MCU refuses to die.

Entertainment Weekly tried to squash the rumor again this week, reporting exclusively that “the pop superstar behind albums like The Tortured Poets Department and folklore is not in the film.”
